Our
Story
Hi, we’re Apple and Paula, the two souls behind barrel.
We met while surfing in the south of Sri Lanka - quite literally crashed into each other in the waves.
Apple grew up in Weligama, one of the villages best known for surfing along the southern coast.
He’s been surfing since he was eight, is part of the Sri Lankan national surf team, and is well known in the area as one of the “Apple Twins”, a name with a whole family story of its own. He’s not only a surf coach, he’s part of this ocean, this culture, and this community.
Paula is a traveler and yoga teacher who grew up between cultures - Guatemala, Portugal, and Germany - and eventually landed in Sri Lanka. It wasn’t part of the plan, but somehow, it turned out to be exactly where she needed to be.
Barrel was born in the waves, from that unexpected meeting.

We offer private & group surf lessons, soulful surf & yoga retreats and support travelers on their journey through Sri Lanka with personal, honest recommendations.

With love, honesty, and two unique perspectives – one deeply rooted in the ocean and local surf culture, the other shaped by movement, breath, and a global mindset.
